Position: AIBS-Overseas Director in Bangladesh

Job Description/Responsibility:

This is a top-level administrative/managerial position based in Dhaka to ensure effective implementation of monitoring and evaluation, organizational outreach, resource mobilization, affiliation management, facilitation, representation of the organization and other managerial duties. The AIBS-Overseas Director will participate in the substantive work of AIBS and receive professional mentoring from the AIBS and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers Executive Leadership. This position will report to the President of AIBS.

Major responsibilities include:

  • To represent the Institute on behalf of AIBS President and Board where necessary (Governmental and non-governmental).
  • To connect and maintain professional working relationships with academics and researchers in Bangladesh in order to promote and facilitate research programs of AIBS’ scholars.
  • To organize academic talks, conferences, workshops and other such events at AIBS centers in Bangladesh in order to promote scholarly interaction between US and Bangladeshi scholars.
  • To facilitate Institutional programs and to assist the board members and relevant committee member/s in formalizing collaborations between Critical Languages Scholarship Program, AIBS, and Bangladeshi scholars.
  • To facilitate access of Bangladeshi scholars and researchers to relevant American scholars and institutes in US in pursuance of joint or collaborative research programs.
  • To overall administer and manage AIBS office/center in Bangladesh and to supervise its staff.
  • To process applications for Government of Bangladesh clearance for AIBS, CAORC and member university fellows’ research projects and to arrange their necessary institutional affiliations.
  • To maintain contact with American grantees in Bangladesh and provide assistance to them in connection with their respective research projects in Bangladesh.
  • To carry out the policies of the institute and perform duties related thereto, as directed by the AIBS President.
  • To maintain professional working relationship with affiliated and relevant organizations.
  • To liaison with Government of Bangladesh and to report to relevant officials at GoB on AIBS activities in Bangladesh and USA.
  • To maintain office inventory for Dhaka and to provide such records to AIBS board at the annual meetings.
  • To be responsible for maintenance and supervising of the Center's financial accounts.
  • To hire and train AIBS Dhaka Center staff members.
  • To oversee, manage and report on the activities of the AIBS-Bangladesh based staff.
  • To take essential security and administrative steps for AIBS office and staff protection.
  • To maintain professional working relationship with US Embassy officials and related staff
  • Any other task as required and advised by the President of the organization.

Skills Required:

  • Strong interpersonal skill with a pleasant, cooperative, and helpful manner
  • Excellent communication skills both written & oral in both Bangla and English language
  • Planning and initiating online campaign initiatives
  • Ability to contribute to and develop strategic plan, including quarterly & annual program planning
  • Good team player mentality with excellent leadership skills
  • Ability to take innovative and work proactively
  • Ability to make program decisions
  • Strong aptitude regarding negotiations
  • Experience with working in the non-profit sector

Educational Requirements:

Candidates from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those with:

  • Post graduate degree in any discipline from Social Sciences or Humanities
  • PhD in relevant discipline is preferable

Experience Requirements: 5-7 years of work experience in relevant field.
